Wake up to Coffee!

Ah! Coffee!

The very name conjures up an image of refreshed mornings; the beverage is often the first thing we reach out for when a little tired, lethargic, or in need of a desperate wake-me-up.

While a cup of coffee is also great company to have deep conversations with a friend with, or an icebreaker for a professional meeting; few are aware of its tremendous benefits when applied topically on the skin. Read on, coffee lovers (and the haters too) because coffee is on its way to becoming one of the indispensable ingredients in your self-care routine. Here’s what coffee brings to the table (oops, skin) for you.

Cellulite: Let’s face it! We’ve all got a few dimples here and there except where they ought to be ;-) and cellulite is a nightmare to get rid of. Coffee scrubs help reduce the appearance of cellulite and make your skin look smooth and provide an even appearance.

Dark circles: The caffeine content in coffee is thought to help dilate the blood vessels that contribute to dark circles. Gently applying fine coffee grounds mixed with a nourishing, non-comodogenic (one that does not clog pores) oil is a good way of getting rid of them. The area around the eyes is extremely delicate and this must be done gently without an scrubbing at all.

Calming: Although drinking a cup of coffee acts as a stimulant, the benefits of applying it topically on the skin is exactly the opposite – it is calming. This could be one of the reasons why coffee infused creams and gels are often used for acne control.

Exfoliation: Coffee is a great natural exfoliator and is particularly preferred over other ingredients as it is not harsh and does not harm the skin. Although gentle, it does a very powerful job of exfoliating dead skin cells and giving the skin a smooth and polished appearance.

Circulation: Using a scrub promotes blood circulation, and this leads to a glowing, energized skin by effectively de-puffing areas of the skin. Ice cubes made of coffee are an excellent idea to immediately lift and brighten tired skin.

Anti-oxidant boost: One of the most important properties of coffee is the high anti-oxidant ability that helps protect and bolster the skin’s natural defences against harsh environmental factors leading to rapid ageing and free radical damage.

With so many benefits, how are we supposed to resist using coffee in our personal care products isn’t it? But, if you’re loath to spare some of your favourite drink for your skin, despair not! Get your hands on a Gorgeous Coffee Body Scrub jar from Ru, and get glowing!
