Superfood Spotlight - Guavas

The use of guavas in skincare products is yet to gain popularity, but this humble fruit is a powerhouse of vitamins all of which are extremely beneficial in skin care. The fruit abounds in vitamin A, B, C, potassium, antioxidants, carotene and lycopene. We use guavas in our signature product - the Luxury Indulgence Face Pack  and the results of using it are simply amazing.

Superfoods are most beneficial when consumed internally, but also provide visible results when used topically over a period of time. Here are some ways you can incorporate this superfruit in your routine and reap its benefits.

UV Protection

Pink guavas are said to contain twice the amount of lycopene present in tomatoes. Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant believed to protect the skin from being damaged by UV rays and environmental pollution.

Anti-ageing Properties

Guavas are a rich source of vitamins A, B, C and potassium which are good antioxidants and detoxifiers. Antioxidants are responsible for fighting free radicals that cause premature signs of ageing like wrinkles and fine lines. Lycopene in guavas is also said to protect the healthy cells from the toxins that accumulate in the body due to metabolism and environmental pollution.

Skin Hydration

We all know the importance of consuming 8 glasses of water daily to have a radiant complexion. Guava is one of the fruits that have a high water content, making it an excellent source of hydration when consumed internally. Reach for a ripe guava the next time you have 5 PM hunger pangs. Your skin will thank you for it.

Treating Skin Problems

A guava provides more than twice the recommended daily value of vitamin C which is excellent for skin healing as it contributes to generation of collagen, the substance that imparts firmness to the skin. Besides, it is said to provide vitamin K which improves blood coagulation, impairment of which causes skin redness and irritation. This makes it beneficial in treating dark circles, spider veins, rosacea, acne irritation and splotchy skin.

Guava finds pride of place in one of our signature products – the Luxury Indulgence Face Pack – specially formulated for sensitive skin and with a long list of benefits ranging from a natural wholesome glow to helping reduce oiliness, inflammation caused by active acne and appearance of open pores.

HOW TO USE GUAVAS FOR SKINCARE

The astringent qualities of guavas keep your skin free from blemishes, acne, wrinkles and pimples. Make a decoction by boiling tender leaves of the guava plant in water. You can also add few slices of raw guava fruit to it. Boil this decoction for a few minutes until the fruit slices soften, strain and cool it. Apply this with a cotton pad to cleansed skin and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing off.

  1. Treatment of Acne and Dark Spots:

Regularly applying a smooth paste made of guava leaves is said to help heal acne and dark spots. Add some tulsi and neem leaves to enhance the anti-bacterial benefits of this paste.
