Using Lip Scrubs is a beauty trend that is catching on, and it is no wonder because smooth and supple lips can get addictive, can’t they? So, what must you look for when buying a Lip Scrub?
Read the ingredient list thoroughly. Some part of whatever you apply on your lips may be ingested inadvertently and you do not want to be consuming any nasties. Familiarize yourself with the ingredients and their nomenclature (their INCI names) as listed on the label. Google them if you have to – but be doubly sure of what they contain. As a general rule of thumb, steer clear of any beauty product that does not list ALL its ingredients on the label. In some geographies, it may still not be mandatory to list all the ingredients, so the responsibility remains with you to make sure you are safe. We shall share another article soon, explaining how to interpret product labels, watch this space for more!
How often should you exfoliate your lips?
Exfoliation is the process of getting rid of dead cells from the surface of your skin, and is generally recommended as a weekly routine. Lip Scrubs fall under the same category. Once you start using lip scrubs, you will start loving the supple and smooth feel of your lips so much that you may be tempted to scrub more often. Make sure you do it no more than twice a week else you may be causing more harm than good.
How do you scrub your lips?
Lip scrubs are usually potent products that contain the repairing ingredients in sufficient strength. And the surface area to be exfoliated is small, hence a small pea sized amount is all that you need to exfoliate. Take the scrub on your index finger, and gently apply it on your lips. Slowly and gently move your finger in little circles all over your lips. You may choose open your mouth a little, to stretch the skin and allow the scrub to work on the entire lip area. The skin on the lips is very delicate and the key here is to apply very little pressure. Do this for at least 2 to 3 minutes. Sugar based lip scrubs are extremely tempting at this stage, but you would benefit more by not licking them off, no matter how tasty they seem!
If you haven’t guessed yet, it is always a good idea to apply lip scrubs over a sink or a washbasin, to avoid spilling any of it around or on yourself. Once done, gently dab the excess scrub with a wet tissue or a damp cloth. Apply a lip balm of your choice to seal in the moisture. Enjoy soft, smooth and supple lips and of course the compliments that come your way too!
